Below is a list of questions we frequently receive from those considering Knightsbridge Institute for professional hypnosis training. We hope that some of your questions can be found below, however please feel free to contact us with any additional questions you may have.
Q: Is there any regulator or regulating body for hypnotherapy in Oregon? A: No. We recommend that you become a member of a local Chapter of the Nation Guild of Hypnotists(NGH) or join the Oregon Hypnotherapy Association, but this is entirely voluntary.
Q: Do I need to have a license to practice as a hypnotherapist in Oregon? A: Currently there are no requirements for hypnotherapists practising in Oregon to obtain a licence or register. We do recommend you become a member of the Oregon Hypnotherpy Association (OHA) which requires a minimum of 150 hours of tuition, and the OHA accepts the Knightsbridge certification.
Q: What are the regulations if I want to practice outside Oregon? A: The regulations vary state by state. Some states require licensing, some registration, and a few states restrict the practice of hypnotherapy to medical professionals. The regulations can be found on the NGH web site www.ngh.net For example, many states require ‘registration’ showing you have been competently trained with over a certain number of hours training. The Knightsbridge and NGH certification is accepted by these states.
Q: What are the tuition fees for the Professional Course? A: $4,200 for 175 hours of tuition. You will be certified as a "CHt" Certified Hypnotherapist by the National Guild of Hypnotists. This takes up 100 hours. The other 75 hours is advanced training that the Knightsbridge Institute believes is necessary to round out your preparation to start a successful practice. Payment terms available as well as discounts for prepayment.
Q: Is hypnotherapy training suitable for everyone. A: Anyone is capable of becoming a professional hypnotherapist. No previous academic qualification is required. You will be expected to have a real interest and enthusiasm for hypnotherapy, but you do not necessarily have to take up hypnotherapy as a career. Many people are thinking of a career change, or to have an additional skill up their sleeve for retirement of if you are made redundant. This is a skill you can go back to at a later date. You will be doing a lot of reading and will be given assignments, and you will be expected to practice outside the classroom and in between lecture weekends.
Q: Can hypnotherapy be a helpful adjunct to other professions? A: Yes. We have trained medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, licensed councilors, massage therapists, dental assistants, energy healers and others in the healing arts. Psychiatrists and psychologists receive a very brief and inadequate training in hypnosis as part of their degree course, and a deeper understanding of hypnotherapy can be very useful.
Q: Will I be taking any exams? A: Yes. You will take the NGH exam which will qualify you for the NGH certified membership, followed by the Knightsbridge written and practical exam at the end of the course. Don’t worry; you will be well prepared, and they are not too difficult. I will be watching you closely when you practice at the school on colleagues, and that is the most important criteria of competence.
Q: How long is the course. A: The professional course is seven months, from September to March the following year. Master Classes are anything from a morning to two days, depending on the subject.
Q: What qualifications will the Professional course give me? A: Certified Hypnotherapist (“ CHt”) by both the NGH and the Knightsbridge Institute together with the appropriate certificates from the two bodies.
Q: Will I be set homework assignments during the professional course? A: Yes, about five over the course, but you should have no problem completing them.
Q: What happens if I cannot attend a weekend or I am ill? A: Lectures are videoed so you can catch up with the DVDs and by looking through the lecture notes. I give extra tuition outside the course if you so require at no extra cost.
Q: Will you recommend additional reading? A: Yes, I have a printed list for both hypnosis and NLP.
Q: Where are the courses held? A: At 3446 SW Alice St, Portland OR 97219
Q: Will I receive any additional support once I graduate from Knightsbridge? A: Yes. I give continuous support and advice on clinical matters and provide scripts as necessary. All you have to do is to contact me and I am happy to help and advice (at no extra cost). You will bond as a group and we will meet afterwards for social gatherings and BBQ's etc.
We will have a Google Chat Room exclusive to students and subsequent graduates, where you can post scripts, ideas, experiences and social activities among yourselves.
